Before typing the rest of this, let me say that I am a photoblogger.
Photoblogs seem to be in a world of their own today, photoblogs are not supported by as many directories, publishing programs, or revenue schemes in the bloggging world compared to written blogs.
The biggest things we have are photoblogs.org, Photo Friday and WeeklyShot, and a few others like VFXY. While Bloggers have BlogBurst, numerous directories, extensive revenue oppurtunities and a larger audience as only a limited number of people take a really active interest in photography, especially the newer version of photography that has been evolved with HDR (high dynamic range photos), confusing abstracts and simple art.
Photoblogs are no less greater than any other type of blog. In some ways I prefer them, it’s easier to see than to read, a picture is worth a thousand words anyways right? Written blogs are sometimes long and tedious to read, photoblogs are just so simple to view in comparison.
Most photoblogs have a much simpler interface and design to them, they are modern and sleek, while written blogs contain so much writing, sometimes you can just be blown away and not read anything at all, while one great shot on a photoblog can keep you looking through the archives.
Photoblogs are updated daily (well nearly all of them) that keeps visitors’ awake with something new to look at. Most other blos are not updated daily, because preparing the content takes more time and effort.
Photoblogs are less popular than normal blogs, only because there are only a small group of people actually interested, however photoblogs get more comments usually as photobloggers are like one big family and visit each other nearly daily. Also a viewer has something to say, he has an opinion, on most blogs (this one excluded) the readers gets what he wants and leaves.
Some great photoblogs are David Kleindhert, Alakija.com, and why not visit mine at thedailysunrise.com : now a good photo would impress anyone, but it takes really good ones to keep visitors coming, thats why photoblogs have a disadvantage, you have to be the best to get visitors, or at least somewhere near that. Chromasia is the most popular photoblog. It can get you hooked onto photography in seconds.
Overall photoblogs are the most creative type of blogs around, they have their cons, but to many, the advantages weigh out more. Photobloggers arn’t lazy and it’s not that we don’t have the time, skill or creativity ot write, but it’s about the photo not the words (most of the time) in fact we probably spend more of our energy processing that photo!
