Try A Platform Bed For A Painless Back

A friend came to me the other day with a problem. He said that he had been working long hours in the office and that his back was hurting horribly. He had tried a number of things, from getting a new chair, to raising his computer screen so as not to arch his neck, and even going to the gym for exercise and stretching. All to no avail. Finally, he relented and went to the doctor who said that the cause of his problems was probably his bed. Well, I had a similar experience both with a bad back and a bad bed, and so my advice, according to my friend, was worth looking into. He had visited furniture stores, but couldn’t make a choice, so he came to me.

Without any hesitation I urged him to get a platform bed, and took him over to my bedroom to show him a fantastic example. Why a platform bed? There are a number of good reasons for this. First of all, like I said, I had a similar problem, went to the doctor and got the same advice. I finally bought a platform bed, and have been using it for years, and now my back feels much better than ever before. The cause is likely due to the generally lower and more sturdy frame that these beds have, taken together with a more solid and yet extremely comfortable mattress. The result is that the sag which most beds develop through use, creating our back problems, tends to be removed from the platform bed.

Most people buy beds which are softer than a feather in the belief that floating is somehow a great way to sleep. This disastrous attitude found its high point in the earlier 80’s with the strange idea of the waterbed, definitely the invention of an evil alien for the destruction of humanity. The fact is, contemporary bedroom furniture, that is, human furniture, takes into consideration much more than just the appearance of comfort, considering real and lasting comfort for the body as its prime purpose. The fact is that a more sturdy bed is much more comfortable than the softer varieties, since your body gets a sense of where it is, and the muscles are able to relax into place, without however leaving the sensation of ‘floating’ in space.

What also makes the platform bed an excellent choice is the fact that you can find them in many different colors, with differing designs and styles. A variety of materials to choose from, such as oak, birch, rosewood in wood, or others like wrought iron or sheet in metal, which makes them ideal as an addition to your bedroom set, and for any house and home.

So in the end, if you find yourself with a chronically bad back as my friend and I have had, then first of all consult your doctor. If he recommends a new bed, try looking into buying one of the modern platform beds designed specifically both for comfort and for your health. You will have done a good deed for humanity in doing so, and in the meantime, for yourself.
