When wondering the credibility of a website there are many determining factors. One of these is a “Privacy Policy” . You may be asking yourself what a privacy policy is. A privacy policy is nothing more then the way that the company deals with your data , How that data can be accessed , How it can be deleted , and what systems they have set up to protect your data. For an example of a privacy policy you can visit http://www.excellentguide.com/privacypolicy.html.
The data I'm referring to is that of when you setup a new account with the company and you have to enter in identifiable info such as ; name , email address , phone number or anything that is not publicly available .When making a new account on any website you should always read the privacy policy and the terms before you agree or accept to see exactly what is being done with your data .By seeing what the company does with your data should help you determine if the company has a credible reputation. If you read the privacy policy and the company says that they have the right to sell your information, now that doesn't sound to credible now does it?
Some of you may be surprised to learn that some companies actually sell the information you give them which gives you those nasty those junk emails and telemarketing callers. And they don't just sell this info to one company but, any company that is willing to pay for it can get it. Now you may say to yourself you have to have consent right? Wrong. Once you click the box that says “ I agree to these terms” then they can do whatever you have just agreed to. For even more reassurance you can always check out http://www.bbb.org/ the better business bureau.
For those webmasters out there trying to gain credibility displaying your privacy policy is also a good way to gain credibility because it lets your users see exactly what your doing with there data and what not. A wise man once said “ trust is the key to any relationship “ And of course you want trust between you and your client right ? With out trust a relationship doesn't work to well. Gaining credibility is the first step to reliability of customers that is. And with that comes more business. To gain even more credibility you should not only show your privacy policy but you should also not sell the users information. I assure you, you can make a lot more money with having a satisfied customer who will reuse your services then you would if you sell their information.
