I'm sure you’ve heard the term Goals, almost everybody has. Why then does only 3 % of Americans set goals? From my experience people do not set goals simply because no one has ever showed them how and they don’t fully understand the power of goal setting.

Imagine being out in the middle of a lake in your sail boat, it’s beautiful out, sun shining birds chirping and lots of wind. You look at the shore and your family is waving you over shouting that the burgers are ready. No problem, you adjust the sails and reach for the rudder, to your surprise and horror it’s gone, it must have snapped off when you ran into the rocks earlier in the day.

How do You Intend to Direct Your Sail Boat to the Shore?

By now I’m sure you’ve got the picture – our life is not much different than a sail boat, you can have everything in place: the wind (motivation), sun (great attitude) and a great boat (you) but if you are missing that one key element – the rudder (your goals) you will waste the rest of your life going in circles.

You may know some of the things in life that you would like, but if you do not write down specific goals of where you would like to be in 6 months, 1 year and 5 years chances are you will end up going in circles in the great lake we call life.

Do It Today!

Pull out a piece of paper and grab a pen or pencil and start writing down some ideas of what you want your life to look like in 6 months, 1 year and 5 years. Once you have done that work backwards from you goal and develop action steps that will be necessary for you to complete to attain your goal. What I love about Goal Setting is you can use it for every part of your life, once you understand how it works, you will be blown away on how much you can accomplish in your lifetime.

Most Important Factor

You must keep your goals written down and have several copies available. You’ll need to post the copies of your goals so you will see them everyday and at different times of the day. The idea behind that is simple and powerful – if your goals are always in front of you; you will be reminded to work on them hourly and daily. My suggestions are: your bathroom mirror so it’s the first thing you see when you wake up, your wallet, your sun visor in the car and your work station at you job. I heard that Jim Carey (Ace Ventura)walked around with a check made out to himself for $20 million dollars, that was his goal being an actor, to earn $20 million dollars, isn’t it amazing that he finally got paid $20 million dollars per film. Don’t kid yourself it’s no coincidence.

In my ebook Goals for Life, I have specific worksheets and questions to help you navigate through Goal Setting, you can print out the worksheets and use them over and over.
