This is a common question among “newbies” on the internet. Usually I hear arguments like:

Writing HTML is slow and time consuming, I don’t have time to learn HTML, I’m not good at learning computer languages and the list goes on and on.

Ok, let’s get something straight. The answer to all this arguments and questions is divided on YES and NO.

I will explain a little bit later what do I mean about this yes and no thing but let’s discuss statements from above now.

1. Writing HTML is slow and time consuming

Well, you are right about that. It really is. But that was in the stone age. Today we got programs like Macromedia Dreamweaver, Frontpage, etc that make our work much easier. You are doing it all visual. So there is no need to write HTML and it won’t be time consuming for you.

2. I don’t have time to learn HTML

Maybe, but I don’t really agree with that statement when someone say it to me. You see, most of times my grandma says that she don’t have time J!? What is she talking about I don’t really understand. She is in pension and she don’t have time???

You probably know what I will tell you now. Go and get some time and learn the basics of HTML. It will be very useful for you. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.

I will give you an example:

Someone has build your web site, or you bought a template ( I don’t really like this second option ) and now you are playing with your site. You put something here and something there and in one moment you broke something and that don’t work any more. Why? Because you don’t know how to fix it. You don’t know some basic HTML. And now you have to go and call this person or pay someone to fix this. Why to pay if you could fix it yourself?

I hope you get my point.

3. I’m not good at learning computer languages

Neither am I. And you know what? You don’t need to. .HTML is not a programming language — it's much simpler than that. The thing that makes it harder is that there's so much of it to learn, but remember — you don't have to learn it all! Just learn as much as you feel comfortable with, at your own pace.

Ok, let’s wrap it all up ( Yes and No arguments )… In my personal and professional opinion You need to learn basic of HTML. Will you design web site without knowing HTML? Yes probably you will, but not a good one.

When you design something and want to edit it later will you know how to do it if you don’t know HTML? No you won’t because you didn’t learn the basics.

So, go ahead and learn it. It’s really easy. To my next article take care…
