Before you start a trip to go anywhere, you look at a map and find the best route that will get you from where you are to get to where you want to go in the least amount of time. If you use this route on a daily basis you will soon learn the right lane to be in at the right time to do so.

The internet is the route and is designed to get information from one person to another in an organized manner so the ones looking for the information and those presenting the information can do so in the least amount of time. Which freeway we use for our trip on the internet are the search engines. The on and off ramps are search engines' categories with your website being the final destination determined by your site's theme and keywords. Your PC and the PC of others are the cars on the internet freeway used to get there and back.

I live in the Los Angeles metro area and every day I commute to my office and to visit clients using the freeways, just as you may have to do if you live in or near a large city. We have what are called 'car pool' lanes for vehicles with two or more occupants, busses and the like, the 'fast' lane for thru traffic, and normally, two slower lanes, one for merging on and off the freeway and the other for trucks an other vehicles going slower or in the process of merging into the other lanes and even emergency lanes to be used in case your car breaks down or for those involved in accidents to be placed in the shortest amount of time in order to keep the flow of traffic as clear of hazards as possible.

On the internet the 'car pool' lane usage is determined by how popular your website is. These are the top sites at any given time as rated by the search engines. We all know there are certain sites that are always on top, such as MSN, E-Bay and Amazon. In the 'fast lane' are sites from the top companies in the world or in the country you live in such as General Motors and Krupp. Most websites will never be in the same car pool or fast lanes of the internet for any extended length of time but will always be in the other the two slowest which contains the majority of websites. These are the small businesses of the world and although they are small if you use a 'one on one' comparison, they account for most of the flow of income on and off the internet, employ the most people and determine the course of the whole freeway.

We have what is called 'rush hours', that is the times of the day that many people are using the same routes to go to and home from work. The huge volume of traffic often means the 'rush' is actually more of the 'slow hours'. It is not the distance that determines how long it takes but the traffic. On the internet the volume of traffic is also determined by how many are using it at the same time also. To keep the flow at a constant rate your lane of access to where you want to go or for those trying to get to your site, is changed according to your ISP's speed, the servers at both ends, the speed of your PC,etc. This volume also effects just which lane your site will be placed in order to keep the flow going in the other lanes. The more traffic to your site increases it popularity, as your site moves up, your income potential increases. The 'emergency' lanes come into play at certain times. IF there is a power outage at your website's server location, it will be put into this lane until the problem is corrected. If you lose your PC's internet connection, you may be put into this lane. When a site is first created it is in this lane until it is internet ready to be accessed by others on the internet.

Once you start promoting your site it is put in the slowest of the slow lanes until the traffic to it is established. In order to prevent our PC's from being in this lane, we have 'firewalls, virus protection, anti-spam filters and such (our car's maintenance and insurance).

I have seen trucks with only one person in the cab in the 'car pool' lane, and in every lane at the same time. I see cars speeding, changing lanes without signaling, and doing this while tail gating. If you leave a safe distance between yourself and the car ahead, they jump in to get one more car length ahead of where they were in the lane they were in, they will not merge on or off until the very last moment causing others to slow down or even stop to avoid an accident. The problem is the attitudes of my fellow commuter. Or even worse, they do not have a driver's license so they do not know the rules or they think the rules do not apply to them.

On the internet these are the 'spammers, scammers, the hackers, the crooks and the ones new to the internet that have not yet learned the 'rules of the road'.They do this to themselves every time they put the 'key' into the ignition of their internet car and choose the wrong access road to the internet freeway.Far too many will continue down this road until something happens. They may lose their internet connection by being cut off by their ISP service, or worse they may go to jail.Unfortunately, many of those new to the internet will lose a great deal of money and in turn the internet will lose what may have been another MSN or Microsoft.

IF you do not how to do something or how to use something or the results from doing so, then find out how before you do so or invest any amount of money. Most reputable associate programs, sites and newsletters, along many other places on the internet, are full of information to assist those new to the internet with information, tips and insight on how to get a website on the freeway and with time, in the right lane.

We have all been on freeways when the trip is pleasant, fast and thus enjoyable. These are the days we remember and often wonder how come every day is not the same. With just a little common sense and planning, your time on and your website can enjoy the internet freeway by becoming more productive.
