Trips to the Rocky mountain West, Montana Mountains , Idaho Mountains , Wyoming Trips, Colorado Mountains , Nevada Mountains

The Rocky mountain west is comprised of the states Mo.,Id.,Wy.,Co.,Nv.,Ut.  Although all of these states are well known for for their grandiose beauty there are a lot of aspects of this region that people do not often tour but are certainly worthy of a visit.  If you have the time and inclination then add some of these to your list of activities when you next visit this region.

1.    Visit the Thermal Springs- This geological area has a large amount of thermic activity which has resulted in a  a good number of mineral hot springs in this region.  These springs vary immensely in how much they have been developed and there is a  pool to fit all types of tastes.  For those that are like simplicity then White Sulfur Springs Hotel has the best pool and motel for you.  Those that like more of a spa feel, check out some of the places that Colorado has to offer.

2.    Search  for Pictographs- The ancient peoples of the Mountain west were very expressive, and a a lot of there 4000 year old art can still be seen today, chipped into rock surfaces and overhanging cliffs across the area.  For those that just want a taste, Fremont State Park in Utah has a interesting trail and interpretive center, for those that don’t mind a hike Grand Gulch in Utah is a delightful place to spend time at.

3.    Enjoy the Less Famous National  Monuments-  If you have not been to Arches,  then by all means you should see there first, but for those who have experienced the main circuit of parks in the west you could think about stopping by the  less famous ones.  All together, this region has over 50 National sites, and many  of the state have exemplarystate park systems as well.

4.    See the Small Town Museums (as well as the most popular ones)- Many  of the most interesting museums are those that are off the beaten path, like the city museum in Three Forks, Montana in which the local citizenry gathered paraphernalia from their area spanning a 100 years.  Of course, some of the more famous museums are worth visiting as well, such as the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, Wyoming.  This museum covers many different themes of the west such as Old Guns of the West  or Modern Western Art.

5.    Go Skiing- The Mountains are famous for its sunny weather, but we also have the best snow around.  For those of you that are not interested in trying snowboarding, you might try x-country skiing.   Sun Valley, Idaho has groomed trails another option the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in Montana.

6. Explore anAlpine Lake this coming summer– The big mountain ranges of the western US are full of  beautiful alpine lakes. A lot of these are frequently visited but a few of the most exquiste are off the beaten track and sometimes require a long hike to get to. One of our favorites is Seneca Lake in the Wind Rivers. This secluded alpine lake is enclosed by steep ledges and beautifully carved mountains that were formed by glaciers. The Wind River mountains are a popular destination during the summer months for fishing and hiking opportunities. Another fantastic place to visit in the Wind River Mountains is Lonsome Lake in the Cirque of the Towers area in the southern half of the Wind Rivers.

As you can tell, there are a many great things that you could do in the mountain west, instead of the oldgroup tour.  Any of the above suggestions will not only be exciting and fun but provide you with many great pictures for years to come.
